About this event:

This is the first ever benefit concert for restoration of the 1930 ’s Austin organ in the newly renovated church sanctuary of Lovely Lane UMC with graciously donated musical performances by the legendary Baltimore musicians, James Harp and Jared Denhard.

Proceeds from the concert will go to the Lovely Lane Restoration Fund. The concert celebrates the newly restored Lovely Lane Austin organ, an Opus 1738, commissioned for the church in 1930 by Austin Organs of Hartford, Connecticut. The casing for the original organ, which glitters in the newly renovated sanctuary today, was likely designed by the church’s architect, Stanford White. In 2006 David Storey of Baltimore was commissioned to rebuild the Austin organ’s console, but much more work needs to be done.

The Concert Committee Chair, Walter Jackson, feels strongly that Lovely Lane’s importance to Baltimore lies not only in its long history and tradition, but also in its future. “We hope that this concert will put Lovely Lane on the map as the amazing concert and musical venue it truly is. Come and see for yourself.”

Already, Lovely Lane hosts a wide variety of musical talent from the Baltimore Folk Music Society to an African Drum class for children. Reverend Nancy Nedwell, pastor at Lovely Lane, says “part of the church’s mission in Baltimore lies in its ongoing outreach to the community. Lovely Lane is an asset to organizations in Baltimore that need a place to meet.”
